Die Nerven der Flüchtlinge und Migranten in Griechenland liegen blank. Zudem finden sich in den griechischen Medien immer häufiger kritische Artikel und Karikaturen zu den Flüchtlingen. Die Regierung ist bemüht, Ordnung ins Chaos zu bringen.

Gleichzeitig fordert der IWF immer mehr Sparmaßnahmen, um gemeinsam mit den europäischen Kreditgebern die seit Oktober ausstehende erste Prüfung des dritten Kreditpakets zu beenden.

Greece has lifted its suspension of the EU-Turkey migration deal, deporting a second group of migrants to Turkey after a four-day pause amid administrative chaos and civil unrest.

Greece began deporting 150 people from the islands of Lesbos, Samos and Kos early on Friday – the first deportations since the EU-Turkey migration deal came into effect on Monday and was then halted.

The expulsions came just hours after overnight clashes on the island of Chios. Exhausted at being detained in conditions that Amnesty International described as appalling, hundreds of migrants broke out of their detention centre last week and camped in the island’s main port. In response, groups of residents began threatening and chasing them, videos showed.

Mit der Entscheidung des EU-Türkei Gipfels am 18. März, alle Geflüchteten, die auf den griechischen Inseln ankommen, zurück in die Türkei zu schieben, hat eine neue Phase der europäischen Flüchtlingspolitik begonnen. Die Menschen, die versuchen, die EU zu erreichen, müssen immer gefährlichere Routen nehmen, sehen sich zunehmend mit physischen und psychischen Extrembelastungen, lebensedrohlichen Risiken, Gewalt und Tod konfrontiert. Ihr Recht, in der EU Asyl zu beantragen, ist immer eingeschränkter; immer mehr Menschen können es nicht mehr wahrnehmen. Organisationen wie Médecins Sans Frontières (Ärzte ohne Grenzen) haben sich an einigen Orten zurückgezogen, weil sie diese staatliche Politik nicht unterstützen wollen.

While government authorities were trying to convince migrants and refugees stranded at Piraeus port to move to other shelters around the country Wednesday, harbor officials there lashed out at volunteers for allegedly encouraging refugees to demand the opening of European Union borders, despite last month’s deal between Brussels and Ankara to deport migrants back to Turkey.

In a statement issued Wednesday, the Piraeus Port Authority alleged that there are people there “that are obstructing the plan to transfer refugees and migrants to organized shelters” and urged judicial authorities to intervene so the law is upheld.

Papst Franziskus will in Kürze die Flüchtlinge auf der griechischen Insel Lesbos besuchen. Das bestätigte Vatikansprecher Federico Lombardi. Als Termin nannte der Vatikan den 16. April.

Am Mittwoch hatte das Leitungsgremium der griechisch-orthodoxen Kirche bekanntgegeben, der Vatikan habe an die orthodoxe Bischofskonferenz den Wunsch nach einem Papstbesuch auf Lesbos gerichtet und das Ehrenoberhaupt der Weltorthodoxie, Patriarch Bartholomaios I. von Konstantinopel, dazu eingeladen.

Die erste Reise seines Pontifikats hatte Franziskus im Juli 2013 auf die Flüchtlingsinsel Lampedusa unternommen. Der Besuch, bei dem er eindringlich an die Aufnahmebereitschaft der reichen Länder appellierte, war international stark beachtet worden.

Protesters shout down SYRIZA MP

Local residents of Chios have burst into the city hall, while others gathered outside the building demanding the removal of the refugees and illegal immigrants from the island, Wednesday night.

The Chios council had convened a meeting on the refugee crisis earlier Wednesday, April 6, when the meeting was abruptly interrupted by angered citizens who charged into the building to protest against the ongoing situation with the refugees and illegal immigrants on the island. Members of solidarity groups also gathered at the city hall and faced off against the other group. From the skirmishes that broke out 2 people were injured, while 3 TV operators of state broadcaster ERT were attacked.

Before being deported to Turkey, the last refugees must first be brought to a detention center. But they don’t want to go. Some are threatening to commit suicide. Panagiotis Kouparanis reports from Lesbos.

Although one out of six people on the island of Lesbos is a migrant or a refugee, they’ve disappeared from sight. They could be seen everywhere up until two weeks ago. But everything changed on March 20 with the implementation of the EU-Turkey deal, which led to their deportation onto the mainland. Newcomers – barely having left their boats – are now being transported directly by police buses to the Moria detention center.

Thirteen of 202 people returned to Turkey under EU migration deal may not have had chance to claim for asylum

Some of the first people to be deported from Europe under the terms of the EU-Turkey migration deal may have been deported by mistake, the UN refugee agency has said.

Greek police “forgot” to process the asylum claims of 13 of the 202 asylum seekers sent back to Turkey on Monday, the first day the deal was put into practice, according to Vincent Cochetel, director of UNHCR’s Europe bureau.

On Tuesday, EU officials repeatedly avoided saying whether they will investigate the allegation, which threatens the legitimacy of the deportation deal.

Greece has postponed the return of the next group of migrants to Turkey under a deal with the European Union until Friday, a Turkish government official said on Tuesday, with no other deportees expected before then.

A first group of migrants, mostly Pakistani and Afghan, were shipped back to Turkey on Monday under the deal with the EU, which will see Ankara take back all migrants and refugees who cross the Aegean to enter Greece illegally. [Reuters]
