A few hours before his death, Abdullah Dilsouz was playing cricket with other child refugees in the wasteland behind the port of Calais. Friends said he was excited to be nearing the end of a long journey from Afghanistan, and optimistic that he would soon be able to join his brother in London.

But the 15-year-old was run over by a refrigeration truck on 22 December – one of three asylum-seekers to be killed on the roads outside the port in the past month. A fourth has been seriously injured and remains in a coma in hospital and on Sunday night an Iraqi refugee had his legs severed by a train near Dunkirk.

In den Reihen von Präsident Macrons Partei „En marche“ wächst die Sorge über eine erneut bevorstehende Revision der französischen Immigrations- und Asylgesetzgebung. Zwei Zirkulare des Innenminister geben bereits einen Vorgeschmack und lassen bei den vor Ort tätigen Mitgliedern der Hilfswerke die Haare sträuben. Denn neu sollen Beamte der Migrationsbehörden und der Polizei in Notunterkünften und Flüchtlingsheimen Kontrollen vornehmen dürfen. Das aber ist nach geltendem Recht heute nicht zulässig und stößt auf entschiedene Ablehnung bei den Heimleitungen.

This past November, three bodies were found washed ashore the Greek island of Lesbos. They were later identified as a Turkish husband and wife, Huseyin and Nur Maden, and one of their three children. The Madens were teachers in Turkey, but they were among the 150,000 civil servants dismissed from their jobs after the failed coup in July 2016. Some of those dismissed tried to flee to Greece to avoid arrest or find work. More than 12,000 Turks applied for asylum in Europe for the first time in 2017, according to Eurostat. This figure is triple what it was the year preceding the failed coup and is the highest it has been in the past decade.

Since July 2016, Turkish authorities have arrested over 50,000 people, including journalists and intellectuals. Around 150,000 Turks have both had their passports revoked and lost their jobs as police officers, soldiers, teachers and public servants. For some, the solution was to leave Turkey and find work in another country, where they could have a better life and avoid prosecution.

La policía marroquí lo ha impedido

Un grupo de unos 200 inmigrantes subsaharianos intentaron entrar anoche en Ceuta asaltando el vallado fronterizo y fueron repelidos por agentes de las Fuerzas Auxiliares de Marruecos.

Según han informado este lunes a Efe fuentes de la Guardia Civil, el intento de entrada se ha registrado en esta ocasión sobre las 21:30 horas de anoche por la frontera norte de Benzú, la cual se había convertido en una zona de complicado acceso en los últimos meses.

Salvamento Marítimo ha rescatado a 58 personas de origen subsahariano, entre ellas nueve mujeres y dos niños, de la patera que ocupaban cerca de la isla de Alborán, mientras que se busca, con la colaboración de la Agencia Europea de la Guardia de Fronteras y Costas (Frontex), otras dos infraembarcaciones en esta misma zona.

Al menos siete inmigrantes han fallecido y otro se encuentra hospitalizado en estado crítico tras encallar este lunes con una patera en la playa Bastián, en Costa Teguise (Lanzarote), junto con otra veintena de personas que saltaron al agua, según han informado a Efe fuentes de la Guardia Civil. La embarcación ha llegado a la costa de Lanzarote con, al menos, unas 27 personas a bordo, todas ellas varones magrebíes. Es la primera tragedia con víctimas mortales en las costas españolas en lo que va de año.

The first thing you notice is the smell: the stench from open-pit latrines mingling with the odor of thousands of unwashed bodies and the acrid tang of olive trees being burned for warmth.

Then there are the sounds: Children hacking like old men. Angry shouts as people joust for food.

And, finally, the sights: Thin, shivering figures drinking water from washed-out motor oil jugs. A brown-haired girl of no more than 3 clutching a fuzzy toy rabbit and smiling as she repeats to all who will listen, “I love you. I love you.”

For years, the turquoise-ringed vacationer’s paradise known as Lesbos has been on the front lines of Europe’s struggle to contain its part of a global refugee crisis. But conditions at the Greek island’s vastly overcapacity, razor-wired main camp have rarely if ever been as bad as they are this winter.

15 Kilometer sind es von der Kleinstadt Sid bis zur kroatischen Grenze. Man lässt die leerstehenden Fabrikhallen am Bahnhof links liegen, kreuzt die Bahnschienen. Ist dann auf der Landstraße lange umgeben von winterbraunen Äckern und weitem Himmel. Läuft durch das Dorf Batrovci, wo die Zeit seit den Jugoslawien-Kriegen stehengeblieben scheint, vorbei an Häusern ohne Putz, Schuppen aus Plastikplanen und knorrigen Apfelbäumen. Schlägt sich nach der Brücke, unter der die Lkws in Schlangen auf die Grenzkontrollen warten, in den Wald. Durchquert ein paar Meter Gestrüpp. Wandert dann die letzten Kilometer zwischen Buchen, das Licht scheint jetzt im Winter auch an grauen Tagen milchig-hell durch die blattlosen Äste.

Il corpo dell’uomo è stato trovato nella stazione di Mentone. Probabilmente per evitare di essere sbalzato durante il viaggio, il giovane si è aggrappato allo strumento che trasmette energia elettrica al treno, rimanendo folgorato

Un migrante è morto folgorato sul tetto di un treno mentre da Ventimiglia cercava di superare il confine e arrivare così in Francia. Il corpo senza vita dell’uomo è stato trovato semi carbonizzato quando un treno francese della compagnia Sncf è arrivato in stazione a Mentone, in Francia, dopo aver fatto sosta anche a Ventimiglia.
