Iruñea y Zeanuri han acogido sendas concentraciones de apoyo a los activistas Begoña Huarte y Mikel Zuloaga, «dos personas generosas» detenidas en Grecia al tratar de transportar a ocho refugiados a Euskal Herria. Para mañana hay convocadas más citas.

Zwei baskische AktivistIn wurden in dem griechischen Hafen Igumenitsa verhaftet. Sie werden beschuldigt, 8 syrische Flüchtlinge für die Fahrt von Griechenland nach Spanien in ihren Wohnwagen eingeladen zu haben. Vorab hatten sie öffentlich dagegen protestiert, dass ankommende Flüchtlinge an den Schengener Binnengrenzen blockiert werden. Gegen die Verhaftung der beiden finden Solidaritätskundgebungen im Baskenland statt.

Los activistas Begoña Huarte y Mikel Zuloaga han sido detenidos en el puerto de Igoumenitsa cuando se disponían a acceder a un ferry con destino Italia en compañía de 8 refugiados que iban ocultos en una autocaravana. Según han explicado en una nota, pretendían desarrollar una acción de solidaridad y de denuncia pública a través de una iniciativa desobediente con las leyes migratorias europeas. Pasarán a disposición judicial este jueves.

Häftlingslager, Wohnungen, Geld für Essen: Die griechische Regierung will die katastrophale Situation von Asylbewerbern auf den Inseln und auf dem Festland verbessern.

Mit einer Reihe von Maßnahmen will die griechische Regierung die Lage Tausender Flüchtlinge in überfüllten und unzureichend ausgestatteten Lagern verbessern. Es sei der Bau von zweigeschossigen Häusern geplant, die Zelte ersetzen sollten, teilte der für die Migranten zuständige Minister Ioannis Mouzalas mit. Auch würden Ausweichquartiere geplant. Auf den Inseln der Ostägäis sollen laut Mouzalas zudem Internierungslager gebaut werden, in denen vor allem randalierende Migranten untergebracht werden sollten.

‘I want the world to know about the conditions we are living in’: 11-year-old Syrian refugee Yamama shows Guardian journalists around her makeshift home within a disused warehouse. Her family are one of 60,000 people stranded in Greece, where the snow started falling earlier this month. While some have been moved into housing blocks, an estimated 20,000 are left in derelict accommodation without cooking facilities, adequate heating, reliable electricity and little in the way of education. This is in spite of millions of pounds of EU funding to deal with the crisis handed out to major NGOs and the Greek government, leading to accusations of mismanagement.

Away from government-run camps and NGO shelters, Syrians, Palestinians, Afghans and Iraqis launch community initiatives

Athens, Greece – About one in 10 of the 60,000 refugees in Greece do not live in government camps or NGO shelters, but in squats such as disused schools which operate under the protection of the anarchist movement.

In these corners, refugees from Syria, Palestine, Afghanistan and Iraq are creating their own community centres in Athens. Now that they have food, clothing and education, they are striving for fuller lives and self-empowerment.

Housam war freiwilliger Flüchtlingshelfer in Damaskus und Beirut – jetzt ist er selbst Flüchtling und sitzt in Griechenland fest.

Housam ist erschöpft. Den ganzen Tag ist er mit einem Freund kreuz und quer durch Thessaloniki gelaufen, um den Beamer reparieren zu lassen, den sie vor einigen Wochen von Spendengeldern gekauft haben. Überall standen sie vor verschlossenen Türen. Als die Freunde schließlich mit dem kaputten Beamer wieder im Bus sitzen, dämmert es bereits. Ein verschenkter Tag. Housam starrt aus dem Fenster, vor dem halbverfallene Industriegebiete vorbeiziehen. Kein Beamer bedeutet: kein Kino für die Kinder im Camp, zumindest auf absehbare Zeit.

“My daughter calls me uncle and does not want to speak to me any longer”, says Ahmed and struggles to hold back his tears. The Syrian has been separated from his wife and two-year-old daughter for a year and two months. By now, the daughter does not even know anymore that Ahmed is her father, that she even has a father. Although Ahmed is now safe in Germany, waiting for his family and the estrangement of his little daughter who still waits with her mother in Greece for the realisation of family reunification, distresses him.

Ten-year old Tasnim came to Germany a year ago with her uncle. Her mother Amani is also still in Greece. They escaped the Syrian war together but when crossing over from Turkey to Greece, they lost one another. While it would only take a few hours on a plane, they cannot reunite. The separation pains them and they can hardly bear this state of uncertainty, not knowing when they will see each other again.

United Nations refugee agency and EU’s Echo aid department accused of failing to properly ‘winterise’ camps

The UN refugee agency and the EU’s aid department have been accused by other aid groups of mismanaging a multimillion-pound fund earmarked for the most vulnerable refugees in Europe, leaving thousands sleeping in freezing conditions in Greece.

The Greek government, which has ultimate jurisdiction over camp activities, has also been criticised for failing to use nearly €90m (£75m) of separate EU funding to adequately improve conditions at the camps before the onset of winter. No single actor has overall control of all funding and management decisions in the camps, allowing most parties to distance themselves from blame.
