The IMRCC received detress calls March the 14th. It therefore derotaded the Danish mercant vessel Thies Maesk navigating in the vicinity, 30 miles north from the Lybian coasts. Together with the coast guards’ patrol ship CP 941 Diciotti they respectively rescued 73 and 80 people, including 5 women and one minor.
They were then transfered in the Centre for first aid and sorting of Pozzalo, where there were already 100 people. Among this people some had been transfered from Lampedusa some days before.
The Coasts guards told th Corriere di Ragusa that main of the passengers were from Soudan Senegal[1] Less numerous were people from other countries of Central Africa..
