Since July in Brussels, a group of 400 Afghan people – half composed of families with very young children – is taking action : demonstrations in front of the detention center for migrants in Steeokkerzeel, demonstrations at politicians, and so on.
On September 8, the group decided to occupy a building on Rue du Trône in Ixelles. It was a political occupation with one precise demand: stop all deportations to Afghanistan, a country devastated by a war in which the Belgian state is taking part. They also asked for a refugee status that would allow them to stay and work in Belgium.
This occupation was a place to gather and organize the struggle to obtain the claimed rights. Mid-September, during one week, the group has gone out every morning to demonstrate in front of the following politicians, in order to get an appointment: the minister of Interior Milquet; the Afghan ambassador in Belgium; the minister of War De Crem; the State Secretary for Asylum and Immigration De Block; the Prime Minister Di Rupo. This organized group of 400 Afghans is strong.
Too strong, from the state authorities’ point of view. Their determined struggle, involving daily demonstrations was visible and disturbing.
To silence these Afghans, the state has chosen the repressive way : it sent its police to suppress the struggle: water cannons, tear gas, dogs, arrests and detention center for 47 of them..
The struggle of the collective goes on nevertheless. They keep on occupying public buildings to organize themselves. A new demonstration will be held in front of the Prime Minister’s office this Friday, October 4 at 12.15 pm.

Depuis juillet à Bruxelles, un groupe de 400 Afghans – dont la moitié composée de familles avec des enfants en bas âge – mène des actions : manifestations devant le centre fermé de Steenokkerzeel, manifestations devant les responsables politiques, etc.
Le 8 septembre, le groupe décide d’occuper un bâtiment de la rue du Trône à Ixelles. Il s’agissait d’une occupation politique avec une revendication précise : l’arrêt des expulsions vers l’Afghanistan, un pays dévasté par une guerre à laquelle l’État belge participe, et un statut pour les réfugiés qui leur permette de séjourner et travailler en Belgique.
Cette occupation était un lieu de rassemblement et d’organisation de la lutte pour obtenir les droits revendiqués. Dans la semaine du 16 septembre, le groupe est sorti chaque matin pour aller manifester devant les responsables politiques suivants, avec la demande d’avoir un entretien : la ministre de l’Intérieur Milquet, l’ambassadeur d’Afghanistan en Belgique, le ministre de la Guerre De Crem, la secrétaire d’État à l’Asile et l’Immigration De Block et le Premier ministre Di Rupo.Ce groupe organisé de 400 Afghans est fort.
Trop fort, ont estimé les autorités étatiques. Leur lutte déterminée avec des manifestations quotidiennes était visible et dérangeait.
Pour faire taire ces Afghans, l’État a choisi la voie de la répression : Ils ont envoyés leurs police les réprimés : autopompes, gaz lacrimogène, chiens,et arrestations, centre fermé pour 47 d’entre eux..
La lutte du collectif des Afghans continuent. Ils continuent à occuper des bâtiments publiques pour s’organiser et revendiquer et organisent une nouvelle manifestation devant le cabinet du premier ministre ce vendredi 4 octobre 2013 à 12h15.

Op 8 september besliste het “Collectief van Afghanen” om een leegstaand gebouw in de Troonlaan te bezetten. Het ging om een politieke bezetting met een duidelijke eis: het stopzetten van de uitzettingen naar Afghanistan – een land waar een oorlog woedt waar de Belgische staat aan deelneemt – en een statuut voor de vluchtelingen dat hen toelaat onlegaal in België te verblijven en werken.
De bezetting was een organisatieplaats en vertrekpunt voor de acties om deze rechten af te dwingen. In de week van 16 september is de groep ieder ochtend gaan betogen bij politieke verantwoordelijken, telkens met de vraag tot een onderhoud: de minister van Binnenlandse Zaken Milquet, de ambassadeur van Afghanistan in België, de minister van Oorlog De Crem, de staatssecretaris voor Asiel en Migratie De Block en de Eerste minister Di Rupo.
Deze georganiseerde groep van 400 Afghanen is sterk. Te sterk, vinden de autoriteiten. Hun vastbesloten strijd met dagelijkse betogingen is zichtbaar en stoort. Om deze Afghanen het zwijgen op te leggen, heeft de overheid gekozen voor repressie : Met geweld en uitzettingen worden ze het zwijgen opgelegd.
Maar de strijd gaat voort. De groep heeft een sterk politiek bewustzijn, is goed georganiseerd . Ze gaan verder gebouwen bezetten om van daaruit hun strijd voor te zetten en roepen tot een nieuwe betoging op 4 october om 12u15 voor het Kabinet van onze eerste minister.
Steun en opkomst in Brussel dringend om de beweging te steunen en tot Noborder op te roepen!
