Hello dear friends,
it was very great and necessary to start protesting and protestcamp of refugees in austria by marching from Traiskirchen to Vienna (Votivpark)at 24th of nov. 2012. Even as the police has destroyed our camp in the night from 27th to 28th december 2012, police wanted to end our
struggels with heavy gear, but theyre are not successful in ending the demands. Meanwhile there are many setbacks by repression, politics and establishment but we dont want to loose our dignity and thats why we want to have another, better, bigger demonstration.
We will rise again (EU-wide) mobilize!!!

Hallo liebe Freunde,
Es ist großartig, dass der längst notwendige Protest angefangen hat und nach dem Protestmarsch von Traiskirchen nach Wien (in den Votivpark) am 24. November 2012 ein Protestcamp einiger in Österreich lebender Flüchtlinge errichtet wurde. Obwohl die Polizei unser Zeltlager in der Nacht vom 27. auf den 28. Dezember 2012 geräumt und versucht hat, mit schwerem Geschütz unseren Kampf zu beenden, versagt sie darin, unsere fordernden Stimmen zum Schweigen zu bringen. In der Zwischenzeit gab es mehrere Rückschläge aufgrund der Unterdrückung der Politik und der jeweiligen Institutionen, aber wir weigern uns, unsere Würde zu verlieren, und wollen daher, dass noch eine größere, bessere Demonstration stattfindet.
Wir werden uns wieder (EU-weit) erheben – mobilisiert euch!

A group of 40 refugees who were evicted in december from a tentcamp in the Hague (28 people arrested of which 21 asylumseekers and 7 sympathisers)have squatted an empy church in the Hague on the 12th of january 2013.
There are also plans of starting a new protest camp in The Hague. Mainly Iraq asylumseekers here while the Vluchtkerk in Amsterdam has mainly African protestors:

This study examines current and forthcoming measures related to the exchange of data and information in EU Justice and Home Affairs policies, with a focus on the ‘smart borders’ initiative. It argues that there is no reversibility in the growing reliance on such schemes and asks whether current and forthcoming proposals are necessary and original. It outlines the main challenges raised by the proposals, including issues related to the right to data protection, but also to privacy and non-discrimination
This study was originally commissioned by European Parliament’s Directorate General for Internal Policies, Citizens’ Rights and Constitutional Affairs (DG IPOL) and is republished on the CEPS website with the kind permission of the European Parliament. The research was jointly coordinated by the Centre d’Etudes sur les Conflits (C&C) and the Justice and Home Affairs section of the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS). Prof. Didier Bigo is with the Centre d’études sur les conflits (C&C), Dr Sergio Carrera is Senior Research Fellow at CEPS, Dr Ben Hayes is Project Director at Statewatch), Nicholas Hernanz is at CEPS and Dr Julien Jeandesboz is with C&C.

„Die Nachbarn sind gut“, sagt Josèphe, in der Hand eine pralle weiße Plastiktüte voll frischen Brots. Er läuft die paar Stufen hoch, dorthin, wo einmal der Altar war. Die Nachbarn sind gut, dafür hat Josèphe, ein kleiner Mann mit kurzen Dreadlocks, schwerwiegende Argumente: nicht nur das Brot, das sie ihm eben draußen in die Hand drückten und das er jetzt an der Seite des ovalen Raums in ein gut bestücktes Regal legt.

UNHCR Reports 55 people missing or drowned off northern Somali coast

“Fifty-five people are drowned or missing after an overcrowded boat capsized off the Somali coast on Tuesday night (18 December). UNHCR is greatly saddened by this latest tragic incident – the biggest loss of life in the Gulf of Aden since February 2011 when 57 Somali refugees and migrants from the Horn of Africa drowned while attempting to reach Yemen.
According to five of the survivors – all young Somali men – the boat was overcrowded and ran into trouble almost immediately after leaving the port of Bosasso in northern Somalia on Tuesday. It capsized just 15 minutes into its journey, spilling all 60 passengers into sea. Those on board were Ethiopians and Somalis.
To date, 23 bodies have been recovered, including those of 14 women, eight men, and a boy said to be less than four years of age. Five of the dead are confirmed to have been Ethiopians. The thirty-two remaining passengers are presumed to have drowned.
‘The tragic loss of so many lives is a new and stark reminder of the risks Somali refugees are taking as they flee their country’ said UNHCR Representative for Somalia, Bruno Geddo. ‘Without doubt, the Gulf of Aden is now the deadliest route for people fleeing conflict, violence and human rights abuses in the Horn of Africa.’
100,000 people have crossed the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden this year, despite warnings from UNHCR and other aid agencies about the risks such trips involve. In addition to using unseaworthy and overcrowded boats, those fleeing the Horn of Africa region often fall prey to unscrupulous smugglers, in whose hands they can face exploitation, extortion and even death.
With the latest deaths, 95 people have drowned or gone missing in the waters between Somalia and Yemen this year. UNHCR and other agencies, through the local Migration Response Centre (MRC) in Bosasso are currently providing support and services to the survivors and assisting the local authorities with the ongoing recovery operations.
